A Program By Girls, For Girls

Founded in 2026 by a teenage girl from Texas with a passion for medicine, FWIM (Future Women In Medicine) has one big dream: to show younger girls that medicine, biology, and chemistry are exciting, accessible, and meant for them too.

A note from our founder

Hi! I'm Ruhika, a teenage girl from Texas, and medicine is my favorite subject in the world. I love learning how the human body works, how doctors figure out what's wrong, and how science can help people heal and feel better.

But I've noticed that a lot of girls stop believing science is "for them" long before they ever get the chance to fall in love with it. I started FWIM in 2026 to change that. I want younger girls to see someone just a few years older than them who is excited about science, and to know that they can be curious, ask big questions, and dream about becoming doctors, nurses, researchers, and chemists too.

Every session is free, because a passion for science should never depend on what a family can afford. If even one girl leaves an FWIM session thinking "I could do this," then we're doing exactly what we set out to do.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is FWIM really free?

Yes! Every session, resource and activity is 100% free. There are no hidden costs, ever.

Who can join?

Girls ages 8–12 who are curious about medicine, biology or chemistry. No experience needed. Some sessions are for a smaller age range, which is shown on each session.

How do the online sessions work?

Sessions are live on Google Meet and last about an hour. After you register, we email the private join link to the parent or guardian. You can also find it any time in My FWIM.

Who teaches the sessions?

Sessions are led by FWIM's founder and teen volunteers who love science. Every volunteer applies, has a short interview and teaches a trial session first.

Is it safe for my daughter?

Join links are never posted publicly; they only go to registered families by email. We only collect a first name and age for each girl, plus a parent's name and email, and we never share or sell them. We never post photos or names of the girls without written permission from a parent.

Do I need any supplies?

Usually not. For hands-on sessions we use simple things you already have at home, and we always tell you ahead of time. Experiments should be done with a grown-up nearby.

Can I volunteer?

Yes! If you love science and want to teach, apply to volunteer. Every volunteer receives a volunteer hours certificate.
